What to Know Before Booking a Hotel in Verona
The Verona Opera Festival runs July and August at the Arena di Verona — the city's most popular event and the period of highest hotel prices and lowest availability. Book 3–4 months ahead for opera season, or plan a shoulder season trip (May, June, September) for the same city at significantly lower prices.
Stay within the Roman walls. Verona's centro storico is small and entirely walkable — every hotel inside the walls puts you within 15 minutes of everything. Hotels outside the walls save money but add meaningless transit time to a city where the entire appeal is its compact medieval centre.
Verona sits between Valpolicella (Amarone) and Soave — two of Italy's greatest wine regions. Budget for serious wine drinking here: a glass of Amarone at a good enoteca runs $12–18 and is worth every cent. Factor this into your daily budget, not your splurge budget.
